City of Rahway to Host Sneaker Ball on January 13 at Rahway Recreation Center to Embrace Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Vision of Economic Equity with Educational Workshops for Local Entrepreneurs, Networking Opportunities, and Live Entertainment
Rahway, NJ – December 13, 2023 – The City of Rahway, Mayor Raymond A. Giacobbe, and the Rahway City Council are excited to announce the Rahway Sneaker Ball, taking place on Saturday, January 13 from 4:00-9:00 PM at the Rahway Recreation Center, located at 275 E. Milton Ave. This event honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his vision to end economic and employment inequities.
The Rahway Sneaker Ball promises an unforgettable evening of education, empowerment, and celebration. Upon entering the Recreation Center, guests will be greeted with a backdrop perfect for photos to commemorate this event. From 4:00-6:00 PM, guests can visit the “Hall of Knowledge” and browse a local business marketplace. The Hall of Knowledge is an interactive experience that details Dr. King’s fight for economic equality through photos, quotes, audio clips of his speeches, and actionable items to get entrepreneurs on their way. Educational workshops will be offered in the classrooms for young entrepreneurs to learn the best practices that will help them create, grow, and sustain their business.
The marketplace will be located in the mini gym where attendees can see how their peers utilized the information presented in the Hall of Knowledge and turned their passion into thriving local businesses. Vendors will have unique works of art, fashion, and handmade goods for sale, and educational organizations, established businesses, and non-profits will be available to offer their insight to local entrepreneurs.
From 6:00-9:00 PM the main gym will feature refreshments, a fashion show, a live band, and a live DJ playing rhythmic beats to get the crowd moving and out on the dance floor. Additional photo stations will also be available in the main gym to capture the excitement of the evening and create lasting memories to bond the community.
“As we reflect on Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, we are reminded that each of us has the power to be a catalyst for positive change in our community and throughout the world. This event serves as both a celebration of Dr. King’s life and an educational experience to show young entrepreneurs that they can achieve their dreams through courage, dedication, and hard work,” said Mayor Giacobbe.
