City of Rahway Announces Film Ready Certification as Cherry Street Makes Its Television Debut on Sunday, March 3 in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live
Rahway, NJ – February 29, 2024 – The City of Rahway is excited to announce its status as an officially certified Film Ready Community through the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission (NJMPTVC).
This “Film-Ready” designation was achieved through a five-step program, where the NJMPTVC educates municipalities on the basics of motion picture and television production, allowing the City of Rahway to promote our community as a filming destination and connect with film and television professionals.
“The City of Rahway is proud to be an official Film Ready Certified Community. Rahway’s vibrant arts scene has always been a great source of pride and we are excited to expand into the world of film and television. We look forward to welcoming filmmakers to capture our great City and share its charm with a global audience.,” said Mayor Raymond A. Giacobbe.
Several productions have already been filmed in our community over the last year with upcoming release dates scheduled for 2024 and beyond.
- The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live filmed scenes on E. Cherry St. that will appear in the second episode of the series, debuting on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 9:00 PM on AMC and AMC+. This post-apocalyptic horror and drama is a spin-off of The Walking Dead and follows Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, and Pollyanna McIntosh who have reprised their roles from the original series.
- Gladiator: American Sports Story is an upcoming sports anthology television series focusing on the story of former New England Patriot and convicted murderer, Aaron Hernandez and will feature scenes filmed at The Waiting Room, located at 66 E. Cherry St. For this production, Cherry St. was transformed to look like Gainesville, Florida, where Hernandez attended college, and The Waiting Room was transformed into “The Swamp Restaurant & Bar,” an establishment in Gainesville. Gladiator: American Sports Story is anticipated to release in 2024 and stars Josh Andrés Rivera, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Lindsay Mendez.
- Nonnas is an upcoming comedy movie with scenes filmed in the Lafayette Lodge on Irving St. This film was inspired by the true story of a Brooklyn man who honors his late mother’s love of cooking by opening an Italian restaurant and inviting grandmothers (nonnas) to serve as chefs. Nonnas, which does not yet have a scheduled release date, stars Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon, and Linda Cardellini.
